Experience
An experience that lets you connect with 400 years of history
Simply staying at this inn is, in itself, an experience that allows you to immerse yourself in its 400-year history.
From the “luxury of doing nothing”—turning off the TV and listening to the gentle murmur of the Hayakawa River—to an intellectual adventure exploring the cultural treasures within the inn.
In the very same spaces where the literary giants of the Taisho and Showa eras and the patriots who shaped the nation once stayed, free your mind and body and embark on a luxurious “journey through time.”
An Exploration of History With a map of the Kansuiro grounds in hand
Within this labyrinthine wooden structure lie countless historical treasures waiting to be discovered. Pick up a complimentary "Kansuiro Walking Map" at the front desk and embark on a playful journey through the inn.
From an original calligraphic plaque by Hirobumi Ito, Japan’s first Prime Minister, to the furnishings cherished by Princess Kazunomiya during her stay and the commemorative monument honoring her memory, as well as a massive Meiji-era safe, you will feel the thrill of seeing history brought straight from the textbooks to life before your very eyes.
BAR “MANGA”
BAR “MANGA” takes its name from the historic salon where Showa-era manga artists once gathered night after night to share their passion. In a space that preserves the warmth and retro design of that era, it serves as a serene retreat for adults, adding a touch of color to the quiet nights of Hakone as they fade into the distance. Please enjoy a blissful moment of deep reflection with an original cocktail or a carefully selected local sake in hand.
Enveloped by the sound of the Hayakawa River Late-Night Private Open-Air Onsen
Just past 10:00 p.m., as the inn is enveloped in silence, the open-air onsen — which seem to jut out over the Hayakawa River—transform into private baths available exclusively for our guests, with separate areas for men and women. No reservation is required. If it’s available, simply flip the wooden sign to “In Use,” and you’ll have a supremely private space at any time. Gaze up at the twinkling stars above and listen to the vigorous murmur of the Hayakawa River flowing right below you. Please savor this blissful moment as you become one with nature.
